Limiting AI

So the question is, to what extent should AI be limited to the public? Should everyone have the same liberty to use AI, or not? AI is a system that processes human language by predicting tokens based on patterns from data. Society debates about the issues of AI and the advantages. On one side, AI is seen as a powerful tool for building progress. It has helped in problem solving, accessibility, medical research, and progress in education. Supporters of AI believe AI can solve and help society's challenges. On the other side, there are many concerns on job displacement, privacy, and misuse of AI systems. But, it is important to address that AI is not either good or bad. Its impact largely depends on how it is used. As we move forward in AI progress, it is important to address the use of AI.

Government authority

The government can limit AI, but that can affect progress for the future. Even though AI can be extremely dangerous, it can also help us with tasks and to get things done more quickly. Projects for work, school, and many other advantages can come with AI. [NJ A3540]

Liberty vs License

With AI, there can be either Liberty or License. This means that an individual can use their freedom of AI with or without responsibility. If someone doesn’t use AI responsibly, there can be many negative and dangerous outcomes that can affect society as a whole. [Schenck v. United States (1919)]

Legal responsibility

When using AI, everyone should take responsibility and shouldn’t do anything dangerous with it. For example, if someone creates a fake video of someone stealing, then that can lead to many problems, even resulting in the person who “stole” something going to jail. If the government limits AI, problems like these won’t occur, but also, progress might be stopped in technology. If something dangerous happens, who will take responsibility? Will it be the government, the AI company, or the individual? This is a question to really consider when it comes to AI. [NJ A3540]

Education policy 

A lot of students at school use AI as a resource for many things. They can use AI for researching, coming up with ideas, a guide for assignments, and even for cheating. Although AI can be helpful for students, it can also be a distraction and can prevent them from learning as much. According to statistics, students are doing 17% worse on tests than before using AI, such as ChatGPT.
